Britt-Marie can’t stand mess. A disorganized cutlery drawer ranks high on her list of unforgivable sins. She is not one to judge others—no matter how ill-mannered, unkempt, or morally suspect they might be. It’s just that sometimes people interpret her helpful suggestions as criticisms, which is certainly not her intention. But hidden inside the socially awkward, fussy busybody is a woman who has more imagination, bigger dreams, and a warmer heart that anyone around her realizes.
When Britt-Marie walks out on her cheating husband and has to fend for herself in the miserable backwater town of Borg—of which the kindest thing one can say is that it has a road going through it—she finds work as the caretaker of a soon-to-be demolished recreation center. The fastidious Britt-Marie soon finds herself being drawn into the daily doings of her fellow citizens, an odd assortment of miscreants, drunkards, layabouts. Most alarming of all, she’s given the impossible task of leading the supremely untalented children’s soccer team to victory. In this small town of misfits, can Britt-Marie find a place where she truly belongs?
I absolutely loved A Man Called Ove so I had to read this one, it was a must. I was not disappointed, I fell in love all over again with this book. The cover to this book is perfect too and sums up the whole story perfectly. This book is written well, easy to read and contains short chapters throughout. I loved the setting (Borg), all the characters and the plot. It’s amazing how people can change huh? I would love to see this book turned into a film. Another well deserved five stars from me and a story that I won’t forget in a hurry. Highly recommend! I just loved Britt-Marie. I enjoyed every minute of this story. I cannot wait to dive into more books by Fredrick Backman. A must buy from me if you haven’t read it already.
Prepare for your best read of 2016 that is how good this book is! Everyone is raving about how great a man called Ove really is, its no wonder that this book is a bestseller worldwide/ This is one of those books you will not forget quickly and be recommending to everyone, this is my favourite book this year by far and I wish I could read it again and again. I have not seen one bad review about this book, but like every book it may not be to some readers taste. This is my first book I have read by Fredrik Backman and it will not be the last I read by him either. When I finished this book I just had to sit there for an hour to appreciate the beautifully written story. But warning you now this book does contain parts that will make you laugh out loud. I started reading this book when I was feeling really down and this book brought me back to my normal happy self.
A man called Ove is an easy, fast paced book to sink your teeth into and will be finished before you know it. If you are like me you will fall in love with Ove who is perceived to be a grumpy old man by many within the book and by readers outside of the book. However, your perception will change the further you get into the book. This book really does deserve the five stars i have awarded and more, if there is one book you need to read this year make it this one.
Ove is a wonderful old man who has lost his wife and like things being organized, his own way and laws being adhered too, get in the way of Ove or anger him and you will know about it. Ove does not like to be involved in other peoples lives but when new neighbors move in next door will they be able to thaw Ove’s heart or just get in his way? This book is perfect for those who enjoy contemporary with a dash of humor and for those readers who are part of a book club. Enjoy, I did.
