Struggling with his demotion back to DI and his concern for the grieving DS Andrea Fletcher, Jim Carruthers is thrown in at the deep end when the body of an old man is discovered stabbed to death in a nature reserve- a ball of cloth rammed into the back of the victim’s throat. The only suspect is a fifteen-year-old neighbour who is known to the police for antisocial behaviour. But the teenager has an alibi.
When a second elderly man is also found dead at the same locale, with the same MO, Carruthers starts to wonder if they have a serial killer on their hands.
On discovering that the first victim, Ruiridh Fraser, has an estranged son living in Iceland, Carruthers flies out to interview the man, now convinced that the reason behind Fraser’s death lies in his past.
But what does the disappearance of a twelve year old boy forty years before, the brutal murder of a former journalist and a bitter local dispute about a nature reserve, have to do with the investigation?
Can Carruthers and Fletcher solve the case while battling their own demons?
And are they hunting for one killer or more?
I just had to take part in this blog tour as I thoroughly enjoyed her first book! Care to Die is the second book in the Inspector Jim Carruthers series, I would highly recommend you read these in order as this book does relate back in parts to what happened in the first story. I will start by saying it has a lovely cover, is written well and easy to read! I felt welcomed back and among familiar faces when I returned to this team, I enjoyed every minute of this book and hoping there may a third? (PLEASE TANA). I would highly recommend this story to you all and the series as a whole, both books have received well deserved five stars from myself. Brilliant story. Will you be able to solve it all before the team do? I must admit I didn’t, I hadn’t even any idea. I loved how all the characters had to solve the case while battling their own individual problems make it a bit more real life. Really loved it! Yet again Tana you did not let me down and I look forward to more by you in the future.

In a small Scottish university town, what links a spate of horrible murders, a targeted bomb explosion and a lecturer’s disappearance? Is a terror group involved? If so, who is pulling the strings? And what does something that happened over forty years ago have to do with it?
Having recently returned to Castletown in the hope of winning back his estranged wife, DCI Jim Carruthers finds himself up to his eyes in the investigation.
Struggling with a very different personal problem, DS Andrea Fetcher assists Jim in the hunt for the murderous perpetrators. To prevent further violence they must find the answers quickly. But will Jim’s old adversary, terror expert McGhee, be a help or a hindrance?
I would like to start by saying what a catchy cover, it makes you want to see what’s inside. Robbing the Dead is a debut book Tana has written and published and I must admit you cannot even tell! It was brilliant, I really enjoyed it.
WHAT AN OPENING THIS BOOK HAS! … It doesn’t just ease you in, it full on grabs you in. I was very impressed and intrigued. Robbing the dead is easy to read and written well, it will have you hooked. I managed to read 52% of this book in a day! I must also admit I learnt something from this book… I learnt all about the bloody Sunday incident in 1972 which I had never heard of before and actually researched (I’m only young, sshh). This book does include the bloody Sunday incident but parts have been made into a fictional story line by the author which worked well. This story is packed full of action, deaths, missing people, lies, secrets and more… Its one thing after another which is keeping the police busy especially DCI Carruthers.
I have been informed by the lovely Tana that the second book in this one to watch series will be soon published by Bloodhound Books and will be called Care to Die. I cannot wait to dine into it already and see what is next for the team. I have high expectations after devouring this story. An author to keep an eye on and a series that will be one to watch in the future. Another well deserved five stars from me and a story I will highly recommend to all. Enjoy, I did.
